2020 Short Term Mission Trip to Korea, Japan, and Taiwan

NLI proudly introduces our Summer Short-Term Mission Trip that we call "Winning Souls Through English." Volunteers will travel across the globe to teach English for three weeks to children and adults alike: some going to Japan, some to Taiwan, and some to South Korea. We are so excited to see what 2020 has in store, and we invite all who are interested in teaching and who meet the requirements to apply via the information laid out in the poster to the right. That being said, the trip has 7 aspects that we think are worth noting if you are interested in participating as an English Teacher:

1. This Trip is Made Up of Self-Supporting American Christians and volunteer Korean Christians:

First, self-supporting American Christian Teachers will serve alongside volunteer Korean Christian Translators on this short-term mission trip. The main ministry of the trip is to teach English, and we better communicate with the students if we have a native speaker at our side. It is very important that the teachers are willing to communicate about the Gospel as well in a one-on-one environment during the English Classes. NLI will train all volunteers and will give them the tools to be able to communicate the Gospel to their students.

2. We Will Serve at a Host Church:

Second, there are several host churches that have the same vision as NLI to share the gospel. These churches prepare host families that American teachers will stay with, they print the student workbooks, and they prepare the classrooms for us. These churches will announce the English camp to their congregation and also invite non-Christians families, friends, and neighbors to sign up.

3. We Will Stay With Host Families:

Third, the teachers will be assigned host families. The families will provide a room and meals to American short-term missionaries. Like the host Church, they will have the same vision to share the gospel as NLI. Korean host families and American guests will share life together and will become one family in Christ. It is also our job to teach English to the host families' children whenever possible: at dinner, during play, sight seeing, at church etc. This is so the children can improve their English skills as much as possible.

4. We Will Provide a Quality English Education Experience:

Fourth, and possibly the most obvious, we will provide English education in fun, effective, and intimate ways. We encourage teachers to develop meaningful, loving relationships with their students by caring for them, listening to them, playing with them, and being vulnerable with them. The lessons themselves will be fun and effective for the students, and we will utilize songs, workbooks, exercises, and games as to fully immerse the children in the English language.

5. At the End of the Camp We Will Perform a "Vision Concert":

Fifth, NLI will be preparing what we call a vision concert. The vision concert is a time where all students, class-by-class, present their dreams and hopes for the future. This is followed up by each class presenting a song, exercise, skit, etc. that they learned during the camp to show their progress. All parents, friends and family are invited to come to the event. This is a very powerful and emotional experience for parents and teachers alike. Not only do we know with our minds we are helping these students to grow and that we are empowering them to achieve their dreams, but this event reminders our hearts of this too.

6. We Will Participate in and Lead English Worship Services:

Sixth, All American teachers and Korean co-teachers have daily worship in English. They sing English gospel songs, receive messages, and share their own testimonies. The worship is a time for us, as teachers, to connect to one another and, for a short time, rest from our service to find peace in Christ.

7. Don't Forget the Overall Cultural Experience and Sightseeing:

Lastly, short-term missionaries will be able to sight-see and experience the native culture through host churches and host families providing opportunities at no cost to the teachers. There will also be ample time for personal sight-seeing and exploration separate from the organized times and events. These times will supported by the teachers own finances, so personal sight seeing and souvenir shopping is not covered by NLI or the host families or churches.

NLI was founded through our passion for sharing the gospel through education. We believe this is our calling, and we faithfully respond to God through these mission trips. We hope that you too share this passion for serving The Lord, and we look forward to hearing from all who will apply. Let us know if you have anymore questions. God Bless!
